Great graphic design is the secret super power behind many content creators. However, for many content creators, graphic design is either too time consuming to tackle or too expensive when outsourced to professional designers. Luckily, Canva has made creating your own custom designs much easier. In this tutorial, our team of design experts will cover how to create a seamless Instagram carousel in Canva.
1. Custom Size
Check how long is your content and decide what dimension should each slide of your carousel must be. In case you need 4 slides, each of 1000 pixels, then give your carousel a width of 4000 (4 x 1000) pixels and a height of 1000 pixels. Do this by clicking on Custom size in Canva. Give width as 4000 and height as 1000 and then click on Create a new design.
2. Guide and Rulers
Go to the File option and click on Show rulers and Show guides. Make sure to get a check on both the options so that you get the guides and rulers on your Canva board.
3. Divide the Board
Move your cursor to the left guide. Right-click and drag the guide. Position it to the 1000th pixel forming a box of 1000 by 1000 pixels. Repeat the process by bringing 2 more guides and position them to 2000th and 3000th pixels. You will then observe getting 4 boxes which will act as the 4 slides of your carousel.
4. Input Content
To fill your carousel, you first need pictures.
Go to the Element option in Canva and search frame. Select the desired frame and place it in one of your slides.
5. Input Photo
Go to the Photo option in Canva and get the desired picture to place in the frame element of your carousel. Drag the picture inside the frame.
6. Input Text
Press ‘T’ from your keyboard to get a text box. Erase the default text present in it and write the desired text. Change the font by going to the font option present above the Canva board and selecting a suitable font. Now select the text box and place it wherever required.
7. Input More Images
Go to the upload option in Canva, select upload media, and import images from your device to Canva. Drag and drop them to your Canva board and place them for your carousel.
8. Get a Connecting Line
To create a flow in your carousel, go to the Element option and search for a line. Bring a line element to your board and place it on the top.
Tip– don’t forget to be creative while creating a flow effect. You can always choose any other element and place it anywhere else you feel will generate a flow effect.
9. Resize the Line Element
Click the line element and you will observe few options coming on the top of your board that can be used to modify the line element. Stretch it from the side to elongate or shorten it.
10. Decorate Your Carousel
Go to the element section of Canva and search for different elements to make your carousel look attractive and connected. Be creative. Decrease transparency if required.
11. Background
Click on the white part of your Canva board to select the background. Beside the animate word written, you will find a coloured box. Click on it. You will find different colours and even the colours which are used in your images are also picked by Canva. Select any one of them as a background colour for your carousel.
12. Fine-Tune (Optional)
Add more connecting elements to your carousel to make it beautiful and engaging.
You can also change images, add more texts if required.
13. Download
Go to the download option present on the top left corner and download your carousel as PNG.
14. Google
Move to Google and search for Split image to cut your carousels into 4 parts.
15. Split Image
Select the first site. Go to Choose file option and upload the carousel we made from your device. Change few settings by selecting the Horizontal and PNG option. Fill the quantity of box as 4 as we need 4 slides for our carousel.
16. Download the Slides
Click on the split image option and download all 4 slides the site generated.
17. Upload
Log in to your Instagram account and upload all the slides in the correct order and here you go with your seamless Instagram Carousel!
18. Bonus
You can make your carousel look connected in many different ways. One of them is by adding arrows and elements. Being creative is the key. You can enlarge and make one element seem to work for two slides, use colour patches in between two slides, and so on.
